About the project
Payroll is the biggest of the apps I built for George Cox & Sons, and the one most of their staff use every week.
Each week, everyone fills in a timesheet, line by line against the jobs they worked on. Hours are split into normal time, time and a third, and time and two-thirds, and each person’s grade sets their hourly rate. Supervisors then approve the week, or decline a line with a comment, and the person is emailed straight away to fix it.
It also handles:
- Holiday and absence requests, approved by a manager and counted against each person’s yearly entitlement
- Importing everyone’s holiday entitlements at the start of the year
- Reports showing whose timesheets are in, total hours for the week, and a breakdown by supervisor
- Keeping the job list up to date, by pulling new jobs from their Contracts app every 20 minutes
It’s been running since 2014. I’ve kept it up to date since, most recently moving it to Docker.
